Moon Knight Episode 4 SPOILERS Below
After the opening titles of Moon Knight Episode 4, we pick up where the last episode left off. Steven is unconcious and Layla is trying to wake him up in the desert. A car approaches and starts shooting at them.
Layla rolls Steven down a hill as the car pursues. She then hides inside a truck to avoid the lights of the car. More cars arrive as guntoting men working for Arthur search the area.
Once the men find Steven’s body, Layla makes herself known with a flare, drawing their attention. She draws them close and tosses a flare into their truck full of ammo. The truck explodes with fire.
After Steven awakens, he and Layla set off for Ammit’s tomb via truck. During the ride, Layla says Steven might need Marc to take over. Steven, however, brings up the deal that Marc would leave Steven’s body alone if Khonshu was gone.
Marc argues that can’t happen as things have changed. Layla is bitter about Marc making such a deal without consulting her. Steven feels guilty for having said something so hurtful.
As Marc argues for use of Steven’s body, Layla says they can complete this mission with Steven. Moon Knight Episode 4 continues with Steven and Layla arriving at the tomb site in the morning. They arrive to discover that Arthur and his men are already in the tomb, forcing Steven and Layla to find another way to get to Ammit first.
As Layla and Steven pass through Arthur’s deserted campsite, they search for supplies. During the search, Marc tries to intimidate Steven by saying he doesn’t have the power of Moon Knight anymore. Without the powers, Marc argues that he has the skills to keep him and Layla alive.
Another fight happens between Marc and Steven, now arguing about Steven falling for Layla. He meets back up with Layla who suits him up for the journey ahead of descending downward. During their preparations, she mentions how Steven still smells like Marc, embarassed at how obvious it would be for Marc and Steven sharing the same body.
Before Layla moves in for a kiss, Steven abruptly cuts her off by stating Marc is trying to protect her from Khonshu. He spills the full information of why Marc is keeping a distance between himself and Layla. The reason being he doesn’t want Layla to become the next avatar of Khonshu.
A bitter Layla continues readying herself and brings up how she demands more honesty from Marc. She recognizes that Steven is far more honest. They then share a more meaningful kiss.
Layla then readies herself to belay down into the tomb. After she goes first, Marc briefly takes control of Steven’s body and punches him in the face. Inside the tomb, Layla inspects what’s inside.
Steven tumbles into the tomb, unaware of how exactly to belay. After Layla helps him up, Steven finds himself mesmerized by the statues inside. He’s incredibly excited to finally be in such a place where most humans have dare not ventured.
Among the dark tomb, Steven notices a symbol in the sand. He asks if Layla did that and she admits to it. She says it was for her father who would’ve loved to explore this place as he was an archeologist.
As they continue exploring, she brings up how her father died during an exploration. Steven tries to show sympathy and speak of how impressed her father would be. A bittersweet Layla agrees and says dying here might not be so bad.
The two venture further into the darkness of the tomb. They happen upon a maze. Steven starts deciphering how the entire structure is in the shape of the Eye of Horus, making for an easy map.
Steven brings up how the symbol represents the senses. He notes the tongue of the symbol and then it hits both of them. The avatar would be Ammit’s voice.
They continue exploring and discover paintings of priests that protected the pharaoh. While exploring this room, Steven becomes ill when he spots blood and flesh on the treasures inside. Layla recommends they keep moving but Steven is reluctant with the sight of bones and blood around them.
The two then inspect something up high. Steven notes during his exploration that Ammit should be bound to a statue. He discovers a table of all sorts of ancient Egyptian tools and also finds another path to pursue.
His conversation with Layla is cut short by the sounds of distant gunfire. They know that Harrow and his men are near. Both of them hide.
Layla, on the bottom part of the room, hides behind a table. A mysterious figure drags in a body of one of Harrow’s men and stabs it. Layla listens and Marc watches as the figure takes out the organs and places them in a nearby bucket.
As Layla tries to sneak away, she ends up drawing attention to herself. The figure starts clicking its tongue and searching the room. It then finds Steven but Layla distracts him.
As Layla runs off, Steven throws a table at the figure and kills him. He then runs off. Layla, running away, encounters a chasm.
She lights a flare to see how far down it is. Realizing the jump is too long and the figure is pursuing her, she decides to crawl along the sides of the tomb’s walls. The walls, however, are quite brittle.
After successfully making it the other side of the room, she is attacked. The vicious figures grab her and pull her into the darkness. She then fights back.
It is during this time that she starts to see more of the figure as a guarding priest. She is able to defeat the priest by shoving a flare into his eye and tossing him off a cliff. She narrowly survives by hanging onto a ledge, screaming after barely surviving.
When Layla gets up, she spots Arthur in the distance. Meanwhile, Steven finally reaches the tomb he was seeking. During this time, Marc talks to Steven about their relationship to Layla.
Steven notes that one of the artifacts is written in Macedonian, not a common language for Egypt. It is then that Steven comes to the realization of which tomb he has entered. This is the long-lost tomb of Alexander the Great.
Layla speaks with Arthur, a pit between them. He brings up her father and brings up his career as a highly-regarded archeologist. He commends her for finding something her father never could.
Arthur then speaks of how Marc is in pain. He talks of how he read Marc’s scales and that the scales do not lie. Layla is slightly intrigued about what else Marc has been keeping from her.
A reluctant Steven opens the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great to find the ushabti they need to complete their mission. When Marc asks where Steven thinks it would be located on Alexander’s body, Steven says it would be the one place most wouldn’t look. That place happens to be the mouth, relating to avatars.
An uneasy Steven opens the bandages and reaches down inside the jaw of Alexander’s corpse. While constantly apologizing during his gross body exploration, Marc encourages him to keep going.
Arthur drops a bombshell on Layla by revealing her father was killed by Marc. Layla struggles to process this information as Arthur brings up more details about that grim day. A tearful Layla walks off as Arthur wishes her to wake up. As she departs, one of Arthur’s men arrives to tell his master they’ve found another way into the tomb.
Steven finally fishes out the ushabti from Alexander’s body. He holds the artifact with great enthusiasm as Layla enters the room. Layla, however, is now bitterly distrustful of Marc and demands answers from him from within Steven’s body.
Marc takes over Steven’s body and urges that they need to leave. Layla, however, demands answers at that very moment. Marc says he didn’t kill her father but she then asks if he was present at that murder of an archeology site.
Marc admits he was there and Layla asks how her dad died. A sorrowful Marc brings up how it was his greedy partner who killed everyone at the dig site. Layla is both saddened and angry at this discovery.
Marc brings up how he wishes he would’ve died that day. When he tries to say he struggled to tell her, Layla becomes even angrier at his guilty conscience. She realizes that their relationship was sitting atop a lie.
Arthur’s men then enter the tomb with guns drawn. Arthur approaches Marc and speaks of how peaceful it is to be free of avatar duties. He uses this as an opportunity to let Marc walk away from this situation if he turns over the ushabti.
Marc starts attacking Arthur’s men. He kills a few before Arthur shoots him in the chest. He then shoots him again and Marc falls into a nearby pool dead.
Moon Knight Episode 4 continues as Marc’s body descends into the depths of the dark water, the darkness fades into a jungle setting. The setting is that of a corny adventure film. The film is about a British explorer and his young assistant searching for aztec treasures.
The adventurer is revealed to be Steven Grant. The camera zooms out to reveal a white room where the film is playing. The room is filled with mental patients dressed in white. Doctors observe the many patients while one patient calls bingo numbers.
Marc finds himself sitting in a wheelchair. He is unable to speak. Layla is present as another patient who turns in Marc’s bingo card.
Marc tries to get up from his wheelchair but finds himself tied to it. He notices a Moon Knight action figure on the ground. He is helped back up to his chair by one of the staff.
Marc then finds himself in the office of a doctor trying to council him. The doctor brings up Marc’s film, the adventure picture he was watching earlier. The doctor is then revealed to be Arthur but looking much different.
As Marc tries to regain his bearings with his blurry vision, he struggles to piece together what’s happening. The doctor then says Marc was drugged to calm him down. In this eerily white room, the doctor speaks of reality while Marc starts connecting the dots.
He notices Arthur’s cane and his shoes. Marc starts saying “Everything reminds me…” The doctor ask if Marc remembers his past of being Steven.
When Marc asks if the doctor knows Steven, he says he does but wants to speak with Marc at the moment. Marc then starts noticing more reminders of reality around the room. The doctor then states “I can’t help you if you can’t help yourself.”
Marc then bitterly states that Arthur shot him. A drugged Marc tries to escape the room while the doctor pleads with sympathy. When Marc makes his way to the door, he breaks it open and demands the doctor stay away from him.
The staff tries to restrain Marc but he fights them off. Marc attempts to escape down the halls of endless white. The gravity of his prison starts shifting the further he runs.
After avoiding the staff, Marc happens upon a room with a sarcophagus. He opens it to discover a fearful Steven who is terrified and greatful to be released. The two embrace for having found each other but are unsure of how they can interact with each other physically in this realm.
They do recall being shot and try to find a way out of this realm. While escaping, Marc notices another sarcophagus that is banging. He takes no heed of it and continues down the hallway with Marc.
Marc and Steven prepare to face someone coming through the hallway doors. They encounter a giant hippo dressed in Egyptian clothing. The hippo gives a cheerful “Hi” and Marc and Steven scream in terror.
