Vanity Fair just revealed a new look at Black Adam. New images also include Hawkman and more of the Justice Society of America. Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson also teases going up against Superman.
Vanity Fair tweeted the new look at Black Adam. The artsy black and white images give a close look at the characters. The hype increases as fans get a chance to see these DC Comics characters realized on-screen. Vanity Fair’s tweet also puts the rumor mill into motion regarding Superman. There were hopes that Henry Cavill would surprise audiences at San Diego Comic-Con when The Rock appeared on stage in Hall H in full Black Adam costume. No Cavill was to be seen. Now fans are hoping a post-credits scene will feature Cavill’s Man of Steel hinting at a future showdown between the two powerful DC characters.
In a Q+A for Black Adam at SDCC, someone asked Johnson about going toe to toe with Superman at some point. The Rock is ready to throw down with the Man of Steel whenever the studio is ready for that story. Here’s what Johnson had to say:
“Don’t threaten me with a good time ’cause I’m gonna answer that question,” Johnson said as he chuckled. “Well, I will say, as you guys know, because we’re all in deep with this mythology and it’s been the age-old question of who would win in a fight between Black Adam and Superman. Pound for pound, they’re pretty close. I guess it probably all depends on who’s playing Superman. I will just say that.” He said then laughed again. “I’ll leave it at that.”
“In our mind, it’s all part of a shared universe,” producer Hiram Garcia told ComicBook.com earlier this year. “All these guys exist together. We’re just focused on telling this story, on telling Black Adam and Justice Society of America. But the way we view it and our ambitions for the universe is this is all shared. And I think you start to feel the ripples of these guys in the universe.”
In a previous interview with reporters at a Black Adam trailer release event, Johnson explained how much he was looking forward to this DC project. “He has the ability to change the hierarchy of power in the DC universe and then, coupled with that, it was the opportunity to take Justice Society of America, who pre-dated Justice League, and, again, these awesome interesting characters, as well,” the actor explained. “We have the resources, we have the material, we have the IP. We, collectively, can get a hold of it and really take good ownership of it and present it to the world. Years later, here we all are, you guys saw the first trailer.”
Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam release date is October 21, 2022. You can check out the Vanity Fair tweets with the new look at Black Adam below.
