With New York Comic Con going full virtual mode this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t bring out those awesome homemade superhero costumes. So suit up because SYFY WIRE will be partnering with ReedPop (organizers for Emerald City Comic Con and NYCC), for a cosplay contest hosted entirely on the SYFY WIRE Instagram page.
The competition started today for all amateur cosplayers from around the U.S. All you have to do is post a photo of your homemade cosplay on your personal instagram account. Then use the hashtag #fanfavecosplaycontent and tag @syfywire and @newyorkcomiccon.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday, October 6th.
Voting starts Thursday, October 8th on Instagram. The winner will then be announced the following week on Wednesday, October 14th. The winner receives a full New York Comic Con 2021 experience package, including four-day badges and perks for them and a friend.
In addition, SYFY WIRE will co-sponsor NYCC’s annual Cosplay Central’s Virtual Championships of Cosplay, the most prestigious professional cosplayer event in the country! Set to kick-off Saturday, October 10th, the event will feature 50 pro-cosplayers each specializing in either armor or needlework. SYFY WIRE’s Jackie Jennings (Con After Dark) along with Yaya Han, Jedimanda, and Ginoza Costuming will be sitting on the judges panel. Jaremi Carey from RuPaul’s Drag Race will host the event.
New York Comic Con’s Metaverse is on October 8-11. You can join on NYCC’s youtube channel. Suit up! SYFY WIRE and ReedPop are sure to bring some virtual cosplayer fun! Hopefully all comic conventions will be back as in-person events in 2021.
