Fans are desperate to see Sebastian Stan play young Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars Universe. The 39-year-old actor has responded with, “Never say never.”
In an interview with Esquire, it was hinted he would look great wielding a lightsaber and acting as a younger version of the old-school Jedi. “Look, it’s really kind,” Stan replied, and mentioned that he was constantly calling Mark Hamill, with jokes that he was his real father. “Mark Hamill is my father, you know…And he knows that, and I call him every Christmas to tell him, ‘Just…want you to know I’m around.’ It’s really terrifying.”
Mark Hamill backs up this claim by showing true fatherly support to Stan. “He’s a wonderful actor,” Hamill said to Good Morning America. Fans were also asking Hamill about who should play the young Luke Skywalker and insisted it be Sebastian Stan. Hamill only shrugged and added, “[Stan] doesn’t need me. He’s an accomplished enough actor to get in on his own. And I shouldn’t put my thumb on the scale, because it’s not my choice, it’s Disney and Lucasfilm.”v
The previously beloved (and forever cherished) actor who starred in the original Star Wars franchise went on to state that he didn’t want to undercut any potential Lukes. Though he admitted that he’d certainly love to work with Stan. “Heck, I’d play his father any day.”
Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett
Though an appearance of young Luke Skywalker has already aired in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, as well as a recent episode of The Book of Boba Fett, it was not Sebastian Stan. As avid fans already know, young Skywalker is played by stand-in, Graham Hamilton, with visual effects to age him down. Mark Hamill recorded the character’s voice.
Lucasfilm also hired the deep-fake Youtuber responsible for the special de-aging work on the characters. These same effects are being prioritized for The Book of Boba Fett. Though fans can’t argue with the results, it still doesn’t amount to Sebastian Stan. He looks so much like Mark Hamill; fans believe it silly to keep him out of production! But for now, there are no promises.
For now, The Book of Boba Fett stars Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen, respectively as the bounty hunter and Fennec Shand. Check it out on Disney+ today!
