Since the initial release of Justice League in 2017, fans began to lobby to see Snyder’s original ideas and vision. That turned into the Snyder Cut movement. And in the past months, we’ve been getting details and teasers. Today, a new teaser for Zack Snyder’s Justice League just landed online. This time, in black and white with additional Superman and Cyborg footage.
Snyder had to step down due to family matters and was replaced by Joss Whedon (Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron) during JL’s production in 2017. That didn’t seem to work so well. As more and more fans and cast members lobbied for a director’s cut using #snydercut on social media, Warner Bros. finally is allowing Zack Snyder to complete the work he started.
Now called Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the new cut will be a 4+ hour miniseries on HBO Max. The new teaser, which looks very similar to the one released during DC FanDome, shows a little bit more footage, but you have to pay close attention to notice the differences. As for the new teaser being black and white, that was probably more Snyder’s artistic choice.
Initially, the Snyder cut was thought to be more of a longer, edited version of the original with deleted footage added back in. Then more details came out saying Snyder is reshooting scenes with Ben Affleck’s Batman. That turned into more reshoots and other cast members joining the film. For example, Jared Leto’s Joker from Suicide Squad will be included in Snyder’s new version. Also, 2017’s JL villain, Steppenwolf, gets a redesign.
There will be a lot more teases regarding Darkseid, the big baddie of DC Comics, in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Snyder intended Darkseid to be the antagonist for the sequel. According to Comicbook.com, Snyder recently explained he already has the story points for a second film if he ever gets the chance to make it.
“If you said to any of the actors in the movie ‘well what happens in the movie’ or ‘what happens later’ or whatever for any movie. And they go ‘well I got the script and it’s cool and I kind of know this and-‘ so [Ray Porter] and I were talking about this and what’s cool or what’s the right response to some questions,” Snyder. “It’s a fair question to ask me, you know, like what do I say to the world about, you know, what happens when Darkseid comes to Earth? Then what? You know, Is that a thing? And I think, listen, the truth is that did I write and did I have and conceive a complete- do I know what happens when Darkseid… yes. I do know what happens. To say and to speculate about what that is and that that would be exciting, I think that’s a fine thing.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will debut sometime in 2021 on HBO Max.
