Fast X is coming in, well.. fast as Universal has started its promotional campaign for the 10th film in the Fast & Furious franchise with the first Fast X trailer which reveals a lot of car chases, explosions, and of course, Vin Diesel trying to protect his family. This time, it’s against Jason Momoa.
Joining the Fast and Furious family are Jason Momoa and Brie Larson. Momoa will play the film’s villain, Dante, who has a person vendetta, as usual, with Diesel and his crew. Larson plays Tess. She is described as a rogue agent from the Agency. Other newcomers to the Fast Franchise include Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson and Rita Moreno. Making their return are the Fast and Furious regulars: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang and Scott Eastwood. Jason Statham, once villain turned ally, will make his return after being teased at the end of F9. The Fast X trailer also reveals the return of John Cena, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.. Theron has played the big baddie for three Fast & Furious films now. Cena joined during F9.
The Fast X trailer revisits the heist Dom, Brian and the rest of the crew pulled off in 2011’s Fast Five. “The end of the road begins” as they face the consequences from the events of that film. It turns out, Momoa’s Dante is the son of Hernan Reyes, the drug kingpin Dom and Brian stole from in Fast Five. Dante apparently has spent the last 12 years masterminding his revenge.
Now, Dante will do whatever it takes to tear Dom’s family apart using Dom’s greatest fear — losing someone he loves.
The Fast X trailer also highlights Brie Larson. The Captain Marvel star plays some kind of rogue agent that appears to be assisting Dom’s crew. Prime Video’s Reacher star, Alan Ritchson plays Aimes, the new head of the Agency who is taking over duties from Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell).
The Fast X trailer showed lots of car chases, explosions, and stunts that defy the laws of physics. Dom’s Dodge Charger can now take down, not one, but two helicopters at once.
We also see the return of Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw. Playing the villain in Furious 7, Shaw becomes an ally but must make amends to Han (Sung Kang) after trying to kill him. Shaw and Han’s reunion was teased at the end of F9.
Finally, the Fast X trailer ends with a fight between Theron’s Cipher and Rodriguez’s Letty inside what looks to be some kind of lab straight out of a sci-fi film.
According to the Fast X official synopsis: “Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.”
“That’s the problem with having such a big family,” Momoa’s Dante says. “How do you choose which ones you save?”
Fast X initially began with director Justin Lin returning to the franchise. He left the project in April 2022. A week later, Louis Leterrier, who is a veteran of high-octane action films, replaced Lin as the Fast X director.
Fast X is set to race into theaters May 19. You can watch the Fast X trailer below.
