Like many movies that were supposed to be released in 2020, Fast & Furious Nine, or F9, had to pump its brakes due to the ongoing pandemic. The film was supposed to premiere May 22, 2020 in theaters. Fans of the Fast franchise have had to wait a little longer for the ninth installment, but things are starting to rev up as 2021 has finally arrived. Hopefully, there won’t be any more delays and we’ll finally see Vin Diesel and the Fast gang go up against the film’s latest addition, John Cena.
With still a few months to go before F9 starts its engines inside theaters, promotional pieces are starting to show up. This morning, the newest Total Film Magazine issue features interviews along with a new image of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Dom’s brother, Jakob Toretto played by John Cena. Jakob will be the teams latest speed bump.
“I know that the theme of family has become a drinking game for some of the fans,” said director Justin Lin. “But when I woke up that morning and had the idea of exploring Dom and Jakob… that was always the reason to come back.”
Jakob will be the “greatest hurdle” for the Fast family according to Cena.
There is an old saying that blood is thicker than water,” he said. “For me, having four brothers, I can say I have had the absolute brawls of my life with kin. It’s almost like it’s accepted.”
F9 in theaters was important to Diesel and the rest of the cast. Having fans enjoy the full movie theater experience was key.
“I’m so committed to the theatrical experience,” Diesel said. “Obviously, I’ve dedicated my life to [the cinema]. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that we’re going to be there on May 28 with a movie that everybody is going to want to see together.”
See F9 with Vin Diesel, John Cena and the rest of the Fast & Furious family on May 28th, 2021.
