Damar Hamlin’s family reportedly provided update on the Buffalo Bills safety’s health.
According to Fox Sports News, a rep for Damar Hamlin has offered an update Wednesday morning on the Buffalo Bills safety’s health as he’s been in intensive care at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center following the scary incident during the Monday Night Football matchup between the Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals.
ESPN reports via Jordon Rooney, Demar Hamlin’s rep, and the Hamlin family that doctors at the hospital got “promising readings that they had been hoping to see.” Rooney reportedly added “progress” was made though Hamlin remains in the ICU sedated and is still in critical condition.
Rooney had to make a clarification to the news outlet that Hamlin was resuscitated only once — at Paycor Stadium. Hamlin’s uncle, Dorian Glenn, told CNN on Tuesday night that Hamlin’s heart needed resuscitation a second time.
Rooney added that the Bills safety still has a “long way to go in his recovery” but the Hamlin family remains optimistic.
“They are elated right now,” Glenn added to the Associated Press. “Damar is still their first concern. But for them, they always look at how they can turn a somewhat troubling situation into a good one. The bounce back from this, for him and his family is going to be incredible.”
Hamlin’s rep released a statement on behalf of the family on Tuesday afternoon though it’s unclear how close he is in touch with Hamlin’s doctors.
Glenn told NFL Network on Tuesday night and offered some positive news on his nephew’s health. He said Hamlin improved to 50% oxygen on a ventilator. It was initially 100%.
Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest during the first quarter of Monday night’s matchup against the Bengals after tackling wide receiver Tee Heegans. Medical staff administered CPR for several minutes on the field before Hamlin was taken to a local hospital.
