Now that we’re three episodes into Disney+’s smash hit WandaVision, there are lots of questions that have popped up both with what things mean for the show and also the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.
For instance, in the third episode of WandaVision, viewers learned that Vision (Paul Bettany) has super-speed, a trait he definitely didn’t have in the movies.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision has for the most part been true to Vision’s established character, as he’s still an android who is indestructible, can phase through solid objects and has the ability to fly.
But since we know that the experiences of Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision on the show are some sort of alternate reality, where they are trapped in sitcom television lure, it’s not certain that Vision’s new superpower will continue in the MCU.
When Vision runs to the doctor’s house at super-speed, bringing him back to his house in a flash, it’s the first time we see this power in action. There was a brief blink-and-you-miss it occurrence in episode 2, but that speed burst didn’t have viewers debating his super-speed as this instance does.
Comic fans know that super-speed is an ability that the Scarlet Witch is very familiar with, as Wanda’s brother, Pietro Maximoff, possesses it. He got his powers thanks to von Strucker’s experiments with the Mind Stone, just as Wanda had, but he was killed helping the Avengers fight Ultron. Could Wanda be conjuring up her brother in this alternate reality of hers?
There is speculation that Vision may now have this super-speed in order to better explain how Wanda and Vision’s son, Tommy “Speed” Shepherd, possesses the same skill. But whatever the reason, it’s a good bet that this power will come in handy in the lives of Wanda and Vision at a super-speed rate.
