WandaVision finally premiered on Disney+ and fans finally learned the big secrets that Marvel Studios did so well of protecting until the show’s debut. It goes without saying that there are spoilers ahead for those who haven’t watched.
The MCU’s expansion into television was a fitting tribute to the medium and the Marvel legacy and the heroes of the show Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), were incredible.
Fans were expecting something different and even though they had seen the black-and-white previews mimicking old sitcoms of the past, it was still something of a shock to see the opening of Wanda and Vision sharing a charming life in Westview, attempting to hide their powers from the neighborhood.
But living in Suburbia isn’t easy. And normalcy is definitely not the rule of the day. For instance, when the couple see a small heart drawn on their wall calendar, neither of them know why, despite the fact that Vision is supposedly incapable of forgetting any information—hmmm.
Still, they obviously have their powers as Wanda floats plates and glasses around the kitchen as she cleans.
Don’t expect epic battles to save humankind—at least not yet. This show is more about blending in to normalcy.
When neighbor Dottie cuts her hand and bleeds, that’s the first time we move from black and white to color and tells them she knows who Wanda and Vision really are. But her memories disappear and life goes back to normal. The neighbors in the show are going to be interesting to watch as the series continues—especially Agnes and Geraldine!
By episode two, the heroes are more involved in the neighborhood with Vision even working on a magic act for the neighborhood talent show.
Captain Marvel character Monica Rambeau pops up—only in adult form—and befriends Wanda, and we wonder if more of the MCU universe will be coming. Spoiler alert—they do. Former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jimmy Woo for one.
Throughout the two WandaVision episodes, Wanda is hearing a voice on the radio asking “who is doing this to you?” and we’re left wondering if everything we are seeing can truly be believed.
