TWD Holiday Special: Stars Predict Who Survives To The End

    The Walking Dead Holiday Special

The latest Talking Dead featured past and present cast members in a virtual reunion that streamed December 13th on AMC+. The episode was hosted by Chris Hardwick and also included the show’s producers. It was the first-ever TWD Holiday Special.

Stars Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee) and Emily Kinney (Beth Greene) gave their prediction of which characters might survive throughout the zombie apocalypse show. Back in season 4, Beth told Daryl he’ll be the last man standing. And she’s been right — so far. Unfortunately for her, she was shot and killed in season 5.

For Cohan, who disappeared for several episodes, is back as Maggie for the extended season 10 and will also be in the final season of the show, which began in 2010. She thinks Michonne (Danai Gurira) will also make her return by the time the series ends.

“I just think it’s gonna be probably Norman, or Norman and Melissa [McBride, who plays Carol],” Kinney said. She had to correct herself when Cohan gave this disbelief look because Kinney failed to include her on-screen sister.

“Oh, Maggie! Maggie, of course. I don’t know what I was thinking,” she said, laughing. “If I, Emily Kinney, was writing the script for the end, I would definitely pick Maggie as the one who is like the ruler of all the new world. They beat the zombies, it’s all over, Maggie is president.”

Cohan added, “And then the helicopter would bring in Michonne, and it lands.”

The final comic book issue by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard had Maggie as President after a 25-year time jump. Carl and his wife, Sophia, Michonne, Eugene and Hershel Rhee (Maggie and Glenn’s son) are also alive after the long jump.

“There’s so many ways it could go and maybe I just don’t really think it’s over. I can’t foresee the end,” she told NME. “If we’re just dreaming, I would love to see Rick come back. That’s how I’d love it to end, I’d love to see him land in a helicopter and Michonne to be with him.”

She continued, “It would be really, really fun if we got to do a 40-year time jump. You sort of peel back and start on a close-up of some very elderly hands and it takes a minute to figure out whose they are. Once you realize whose [hands] they are, where they are and where the world is now and what that means and who’s with her… maybe it’s her final days. Maybe she doesn’t die by a zombie? That’s an idea.”

The special also reflected on the history of TWD and teased the future of the show. Showrunner Angela Kang and Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple were present during the virtual panel revealing exclusive details about the series’ return in 2021.

The special included Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Melissa McBride (Carol), Josh McDermitt (Eugene), Khary Payton (King Ezekiel), Eleanor Matsuura (Yumiko), Cooper Andrews (Jerry), Cassady McClincy (Lydia), Lauren Ridloff (Connie), Cailey Fleming (Judith), and former Walking Dead stars Emily Kinney (Beth Greene) and IronE Singleton (T-Dog).

Kinney performed a “Twelve Days of Christmas” parody song with Payton, Andrews, Matsuura and McClincy. She also performed “Up on a Housetop”.

Cohan reprises her Maggie role alongside Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride in The Walking Dead extended season 10 episodes, which premieres next year, Sunday, February 28. TWD season 11 will debut later in 2021.
