Pedro Pascal, best known as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, has been cast as the lead in The Last of Us, a new show on HBO based on the Sony Playstation franchise of the same name.
Originally released in 2013, the action-adventure game was developed by Naughty Dog and is often named as one of the greatest video games ever made by gamers.
According to Deadline, The Last of Us will take place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Pascal’s character, Joel, is one of those who survived and is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone.
Together, the two characters traverse across the U.S. in a harrowing journey across a pandemic-ravaged America and depend on each other for survival.
Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont) will play Ellie. Of course, Pascal is also known for GOT, becoming a household name playing Oberyn Martell.
The new HBO show comes from the minds of Chernobyl creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
“Stoked to have Pedro aboard our show!” posted Druckmann on his Twitter page.
The first game in The Last of Us video franchise focuses mostly around Joel and Ellie’s relationship, so it seems likely that season 1 of the show will keep the focus on the two characters as well.
Fans of The Mandalorian need not worry as Pascal will continue in his role on the Golden Globe-nominated show. However, his first allegiance will be to The Last of Us, with the series placed in first position.
This past year, Pedro Pascal also earned critical acclaim playing Max Lord in Wonder Woman 1984. He also will soon appear in Judd Apatow’s The Bubble for Netflix.
Kantemir Balagov will direct the pilot episode of The Last Of Us, and it’s expected it will hit the airwaves sometime in 2022.
