Tom Holland Handed Torch to Uncharted’s Nathan Drake

A film adaption of Uncharted, the mega-popular action adventure PlayStation game developed by Naughty Dog, is finally on track to head to the big screen. And Tom Holland looks great.

After more than a dozen years or rumors, directors coming and going and reported casting announcements, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is now at work filming with stars Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, and Tati Gabrielle, according to Nerdist.

The film originally started production in March but the pandemic quickly shut it down, and the actors and crew recently returned to Berlin to begin shooting again under strict COVID-19 safety protocols. Antonio Banderas temporarily left the production when he contracted the coronavirus, but he’s reportedly back on set.

Holland took to his Instagram page to provide an early glimpse of his character, Nathan Drake.

“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate,” he posted next to the photo, which appears to have been taken on set.

One person who was excited to see the Spider-Man: Far From Home star in the role is Nolan North, who famously voiced Drake in the original Uncharted games.

“Like looking into a mirror!” the voice artist tweeted above a series of behind-the-scenes images from the set. “Proud to have @TomHolland1996 continuing the Drake legacy! Absolutely smashing it! Thanks for the set visit!!”

North also included a photo of him along with his movie-counterpart, and seems happy to be passing the torch to the young actor.

For those who have never played the game, Uncharted follows the adventures of Nathan Drake, a professional treasure hunter who has something of a shady background. Drake is the supposed descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake, and shares the same thirst for adventure. He’s joined often by mentor Victor Sullivan, who Wahlberg will be playing in the film.
