The Late Late Show host James Corden got the Top Gun experience when Tom Cruise came to his show. Back in 2018, the Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible actor took Corden skydiving. This time, Cruise flew Corden in a vintage fighter plane and a modern war jet.

“I’m gonna go up in a 75-year-old plane with someone who isn’t a pilot? Yeah, that sounds like a good idea,” Corden says before showing how terrified he was.

When Corden asked who’s flying the plane, Cruise informs Corden that he’s not just an actor, but a pilot also and will be flying the plane. “With all due respect, you played a lawyer in A Few Good Men, I wouldn’t want you to represent me in court.”

As they take up the sky in the vintage fighter plane, you can see Corden holding up a sign against the canopy that reads “Help me.” Then you see Cruise taking the sign from him.

When they reach land, Cruise informs The Late Late Show host that their day isn’t quite over. Now it’s time for some slow-motion volleyball and some “You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin’ sing-a-long.

The new Top Gun duo end their night in a tent where Corden tells Cruise, “Tom, if you kill me tomorrow, I’ll haunt you for the rest of your life.” Cruise replies, “James, if I kill you tomorrow, I’ll be dead too.”

Now Cruise and Corden take the sky in a newer Top Gun style fighter jet. The host seems a little more chill this time. Tom Cruise, at the request of Corden, the actor tells him, “We’ll just fly straight, just relax, just take it easy for a little bit.” That didn’t last long as Cruise flies the plane near cliffs, doing loops and spins, and even getting close to trees. This all looks exciting as the highly-anticipated sequel will showcase more intense flying.

Cruise ends the flight with the iconic quote from the original Top Gun film: “You can be my wingman anytime,” Cruise says. “You know what? I think I’m good,” Corden replies with a laugh.

The Late Late Show with James Corden is heading into its eighth and final season. Top Gun: Maverick flies into theaters Friday, May 27th. Here’s a review on the Tom Gun sequel.
