‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’
Three new Star Trek shows coming to TV as part of the Star Trek Universe. Star Trek: Lower Decks is an upcoming animated comedy series developed by Emmy Award winner Mike McMahon (“Rick and Morty” & “Solar Opposites”). It’s a half-hour show that focuses on the support crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos which is Starfleet’s least important ship. It is only the second animated series since the 1973-74 “Star Trek: The Animated Series”. “Lower Decks” will have more of an adult theme and tone. It’s set to debut on August 6, 2020 on CBS All Access and will consist of 10 episodes.
‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will focus on the years when Captain Christopher Pike headed the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Anson Mount is reprising his role as Captain Pike, a fan favorite from Star Trek: Discovery season 2. Along with Mount is Ethan Peck returning as Science Officer Spock. Also returning is Rebecca Romijn as Number One.
The timeline takes place a decade before Captain Kirk takes over the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701. It will follow Captain Pike, Number One, and Spock as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.
“Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season,” said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming, CBS All Access. “This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek.”
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on CBS All Access. Its release date is projected to be late 2021.
