Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been anticipating a trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder for months, hoping to see what director Taika Waititi has in store for the fourth movie in the Thor saga.
When toy images and merchandise for the film started appearing and fans got a glimpse of character designs, a trailer would be coming soon. Thankfully, Marvel released the first official Thor: Love and Thunder trailer and it looked pretty amazing. Especially with Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” playing in the background.
The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer begins with Thor on some self-discovery journey as he trains to get back into shape. “These hands were once used for battle, now they’re but humble tools for peace,” he says as he puts Stormbreaker aside and watches a sunset. “Now I need to figure out exactly who I am.” Thor even has a new look.
Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer Features The Guardians of the Galaxy
Chris Hemsworth is back as a fit Thor after some hard training. Tessa Thompson is reprising her role as Valkyrie. Jaimie Alexander returns as Lady Sif. The Guardians of the Galaxy will also make an appearance. There are no further details on how much they will be involved in Thor: Love and Thunder. Last time we saw the Guardians was towards the end of Avengers: Endgame when Thor hitched a ride with the group.
The film will also feature Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Trilogy) as Gorr the God Butcher. It was also announced that Russell Crow will be in the film playing Zeus. There was a glimpse of an arm reaching up to catch a lightning bolt in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer. So perhaps that was Crowe’s arm.
Natalie Portman Becomes Thor
Probably the most exciting part of the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer was at the end when a shot of Mjolnir, which looks like it was pieced back to together) flew back to a female Thor. That would be Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. It was no secret that Portman’s Foster would become Thor. It was announced at Comic Con back in 2019. The film will explore how she will become worthy and possess the power of Thor. The question is, will she be called Thor or continue to be Jane Foster.
In a recent chat with Empire, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi talks about how “this film is the craziest thing he’s ever done.”
“It’s very different from Ragnarok. It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos,” added the director.
Thor: Love and Thunder premieres in theaters July 8. You can watch the full trailer below.
