The latest Marvel movie released in theaters is this weekend is Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth Thor film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second Thor film helmed by director Taika Waititi. Naturally, as an MCU movie, this picture is set up to continue onward into new movies. This means that sitting through the credits of an MCU film is pretty much a requirement for the surprise scene of what will be on the horizon.
Please note that we’re going to be getting into some SPOILERS here. So if you haven’t seen the film yet, you may want to skip this article.
During the mid-credit scene, an injured Zeus (Russell Crowe) speaks about getting revenge on Thor (Chris Hemsworth). He tells all this to the demigod Hercules (Brett Goldstein), aiming to please Zeus by finding and slaughtering the god of thunder. So look forward to that villain in a future Thor film.
But what exactly will Hercules be doing in the inevitable fifth Thor movie? Well, according to Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi via Uproxx, nothing is set in stone at the moment. In truth, the inclusion of Hercules is more of executive producer Kevin Feige’s call than anyone else’s.
“Kevin really wanted him to do it.”
That being said, the Thor: Love and Thunder director seems to be cool with the response to the mid-credit cameo.
“It was such a cool moment in the cinema where it played, that people went nuts.”
So while the Hercules scene wasn’t Waititi’s call, he’s curious himself about what may follow.
“This will be interesting to see, because Kevin, he’s obviously the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So I’m curious to find out myself.”
The Thor: Love and Thunder post credits, after an additional scene showing what happens to Jane Foster a.k.a the Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman), specify that Thor will indeed return for a fifth film. How Hercules will play into that is as rough an idea at this point as when Thor 5 will hit theaters.
