When Lauren Cohen’s Maggie returned to help her Alexandria friends at the end of The Walking Dead’s last season to battle the Whisperers, she had a number of new alleys helping her with her mission. Among them were Cole (James Devoti) and the metal-masked mystery man Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari). Fans will get to see more of Maggie’s new group in The Walking Dead’s final season.
When The Walking Dead final season begins, Maggie’s new group will be revealed as “the Wardens,” according to the official synopsis for Season 11A of the show. From what we know, the Wardens have been locked in a battle with the Reapers, the human-hunting pack of executioners that we saw a glimpse of in the bonus episodes earlier this year, when some of Maggie’s group are ambushed and killed by a camouflaged attacker.
The Walking Dead Final Season Synopsis:
“Alexandria is severely compromised, left a former shell of the home it once was from the carnage and devastation left behind by the Whisperers. Now all who live in Alexandria struggle to refortify it and feed its increasing number of residents, which include the survivors from the fall of the Kingdom and the burning of Hilltop; along with Maggie and her new group, the Wardens. Alexandria has more people than it can manage to feed and protect. Their situation is dire as tensions heat up over past events and self-preservation rises to the surface within the ravaged walls.”
In the bonus episode, “Home Sweet Home,” Maggie and her group seemed to have settled on staying in Alexandria and helping them rebuild after the Whisperers War. Producers have confirmed that the Reapers will return in this final season, and learn more about Maggie’s time away.
Fans are thrilled that Maggie is back on the canvas and are excited to find out exactly what she and son Hershel have been up to all these years being on the road with Georgie (Jayne Atkinson) and twins Midge and Hilda (Misty and Kim Ormiston).
“She has seen some dark things on the road, and obviously, like when she comes in, she’s with this man in like a metal mask, and who is this fellow, what adventures have they been on? That’s all part of the story going forward, and it’s going to drive one of the major missions that we’ll start to see unfold,” Angela Kang, The Walking Dead’s executive producer and showrunner, said in a recent interview. “It will lead us to meet some other interesting characters that will cross into some of the other major storylines of our series going forward.”
Watch Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan when The Walking Dead returns with its final season on Sunday, August 22.
