In a new promo trailer for The Walking Dead episode titled, “Trust,” there’s rising tension between the Commonwealth and Hilltop. The penultimate episode teases a standoff between Maggie and Daryl.
“You expect me to trust him?” Maggie asks Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) who marched with his army at the gates of Hilltop. “I’m asking you to trust me,” replies Daryl (Norman Reedus), who’s in line with Hornsby’s Commonwealth troopers.
The scene in new The Walking Dead episode takes place six months after the mid-season premiere. “There’s not too much I can say, but I think that there’s a lot that comes up for her to do with this, ‘Will we, won’t we play ball with the Commonwealth?'” Cohan previously told ComicBook when asked about the six-months time jump. “It’s difficult to rebuild to begin with, and it’s really difficult to rebuild when you don’t have any food or resources. The group and Maggie and the people at Hilltop are definitely gonna be hit with a lot of challenges, as far as that.”
“We, as an audience, we’re gonna really get to try to peek under the hood of this Commonwealth, which Maggie obviously finds very suspicious,” Cohan continued.
The Commonwealth took things to a new low in The Walking Dead episode when Toby Carlson (Jason Butler Warner) tries to kill Aaron and Gabriel during a mission to Riverbend. That was a cover for a covert operation to kill Michael Biehn’s Ian who was suspected of stealing a shipment of guns that belonged to the Commonwealth.
“No one thought that the Commonwealth would stoop this low. I think that everyone had their doubts about them, but they certainly didn’t think that they had something like this in mind,” Ross Marquand said during an exclusive postmortem with Comicbook.com. “And the very fact that this man, Carlson, is so willing to just turn the situation so unnecessarily dark so quickly, I think it really shocks Aaron at first. And then all of a sudden he just snaps back to reality and realizes, ‘Oh my God, we really thought that these guys were on the level and now we’re realizing they’re just another Governor. They’re just another Savior group.'”
The Walking Dead episode, “Trust,” is streaming on AMC+ March 27 and airs on AMC on April 3. It will be followed-up with The Walking Dead episode titled, “God,” ending part B of the eleventh and final season of the zombie show.
The Walking Dead Season 11 part C, which is the last 8 episodes of the series, will return later in 2022.
