When The Falcon and the Winter Soldier set to launch on Disney+ on March 19, more and more info is being leaked about what’s to come in an effort to excite fans.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a new Super Soldier Serum being introduced, something confirmed in the latest teaser for the show.
In the teaser, viewers were shown the two titular heroes (played by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, respectively) bantering about, and talk turns to some villains.
A voiceover of Falcon comes on talking about a new threat—a group of masked hijackers.
“These guys use brute force… They’re strong. Too Strong,” he said.
The new villains appear to have some variation of Steve Rogers/Captain America’s Super Soldier Serum running through their veins, which is sure to excite comic fans.
Throughout Marvel Comics’ history, scientists and/or villains have tried to replicate Dr. Abraham Erskine’s miraculous success creating Captain America, though the results were often disastrous.
Some of the connections from popular storylines include a secret history of the U.S. government after WWII, trying to recreate Captain America by experimenting on black soldiers, something The Falcon and the Winter Soldier trailers have already alluded to.
There have been variations of Super Soldier Serum were utilized by Luke Cage/Power Man, and Russia’s Black Widow program (including Natasha Romanoff), but now it looks like we’ll be seeing it again.
Based on what we’ve seen, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will introduce at least one of the Super Soldier Serum storylines, if not more. This plays into why the streaming show needed to drop before the upcoming Black Widow movie as well, and should explain how Mike Coulter’s Luke Cage could get his MCU re-introduction.
Another tidbit from the trailer is a twist on the Super Soldier Serum and the U.S. Navy’s AVX patch, which gave a boost of Super Soldier/Power Man abilities to the user but also left him/her dependent on continued usage, at the risk of death from withdraw. Expect that to have big storyline possibilities throughout the season.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier premieres March 19th on Disney+.
