Now that Disney+ has completed its season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, fans have lots of questions about what’s ahead. While the show did a great job of expanding the story of the two titular Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, it left what’s next for both somewhat up in the air, and just what their roles will be in the films going forward will be interesting to see.
But The Falcon and the Winter Soldier also introduced some new characters—many taken right from the comic books—and that’s had people buzzing.
For instance, the legendary 11-time Emmy-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus appeared in the final two episodes as the mysterious Countess Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine. Producer Nate Moore has gone as record saying that the actress will return to the MCU.
Speaking with EW, Moore noted Louis-Dreyfus is so talented and there’s so much that they can envision for her and the character.
“And she’s game for it,” he said. “She certainly didn’t come to us and say, ‘I’ll be in one show once.’ She was like, ‘I want to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.’ And we said, ‘Great! Let’s get you in and let’s figure out how to use you.’ And the truth is, I think you will see her in the future. Definitely.”
Rumors had already surfaced that the character was going to debut in Black Window, but when the MCU schedule changed and that movie was moved more than a year out from its expected bow in 2021, the thinking apparently shifted.
Fellow Marvel producer Zoie Nagelhout said the decision to bring her on to the Disney+ series was an easy one to make.
“That character of Val, we were like, we’ve got to bring somebody into John Walker’s world that challenges him, that maybe gives him a glimmer of hope, but hope that is tainted because his character is all about a search for identity that is maybe a bit problematic,” she said. “As soon as we figured out [Val’s] the right character for that role, Louis-Dreyfus came quickly after.”
Here’s hoping for a long future between the former Elaine Benes and the MCU.
