The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Recap

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 4 recap continues the struggle between Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Sam (Anthony Mackie), and John (Wyatt Russell)

Bucky, Sam, and Zemo Take on Karli

The trio debated how to handle Karli. While Zemo believes she is a violent supremacist and must be dealt with, Sam disagrees. He reminds Zemo that she’s just a kid and can be reasoned with. They head off to the refugee center to ask about Donya Madani’s funeral, where they believe Karli will be. Sam and Bucky don’t have any luck, but Zemo gets answers from some children.

Sam calls Sharon and lets her know what their plan is and to keep an eye on them. She reminds Sam that the Power Broker is furious with Karli for stealing the last of the serum and will be coming for her, and to watch his back.

Karli and her friend, Nico, retrieve a pack of vials. Karli reveals her plan to create more super-soldiers with the serum and wonders if she’s making the right choice. Nico reminds her that she is inspiring others like them to believe that is a gray area now and the world needs a hero who knows that.

Do They Find Karli and the Flag Smashers?

Walker and Hoskins find Sam, Bucky, and Zemo on their way to the funeral and insist on joining them. Walker hears Sam’s plan to talk with Karli, and immediately voices his dissent. He believes Karli is past reasoning and can only be dealt with by force, but agrees to give Sam ten minutes.

After the funeral, Sam approaches Karli and explains that she doesn’t have to resort to violence. Karli considers his words, but Walker’s patience has worn thin. He barges into the room, thereby destroying any progress Sam has made with Karli. Feeling betrayed, Karli lashes out and runs off.

Zemo finds her in a storage room and shoots at her, but she dives out of the way, dropping the vials. Zemo sees the serum and immediately tries to destroy them. Karli, sensing his distraction, takes off running. Suddenly, the Captain America shield slams into Zemo and knocks him to the side. Walker runs into the room and puts the last remaining vial of serum into his pocket.

The Dora Milaje arrive and demand Zemo be turned over to them. Walker refuses and a fight breaks out among the group. The Dora Milaje overpower Walker, beating him before leaving to find Zemo, who escaped during the chaos.

What Happened to That Vial of Serum in Walker’s Pocket?

While recovering from the fight and his embarrassment, Walker asks Hoskins if he would take the serum, given the opportunity. Hoskins says he would and explains that the serum only makes a person more of who they are.

Karli arranges for Sam to meet her alone to finish their conversation, but Sharon calls and informs them that Walker and Hoskins are at the warehouse. Sam arrives as Walker and the Flag Smashers fight. He notices a change in Walker’s fighting style, leading him to one conclusion: Walker has taken the serum. Meanwhile, Karli kills Hoskins by slamming him into a concrete pillar. The serum maximizes Walker’s anger as he runs after the Flag Smashers.

Walker grabs Nico and demands to know where Karli ran off to. Pleading for mercy, Nico shouts that he doesn’t know. As people begin to crowd the plaza, Walker lifts the shield high above his head and slams it into Nico’s chest repeatedly. Onlookers record the moment with their phones. Walker stands to reveal the Captain America shield is stained with blood. True to the title of the episode, Walker realizes the whole world is watching.
