Do Sam and Bucky Work Together in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 2?
In episode 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, John Walker is introduced to the world as Captain America. Upset, Bucky meets with Sam. As the two playfully banter, Bucky doesn’t approve of Sam giving up the shield. Sam pushes the conversation aside and reveals the mission he’s on. Bucky decides to join him.
The two find themselves in an old warehouse where the Flag Smashers are loading up trucks. When Bucky and Sam conclude there’s a hostage onboard, they take off after the trucks, with Bucky running fast enough to break into the back of one.
After Bucky learns the group is stealing vaccines, he finds the hostage, but she turns out to be a Flag Smasher. She kicks Bucky hard enough that he flies out of the truck. Sam arrives as more Flag Smashers join the fight and move it to the tops of the trucks.
Suddenly, a shield flies into view as Walker appears with his sidekick, Lemar Hoskins, aka Battlestar. Bucky gets knocked off the truck and hangs on at the bottom. Sam deftly maneuvers around the trucks to save Bucky, but they end up tumbling down a grassy knoll off the road.
Do We Find Out Who the Flag Smashers Are?
Sam and Bucky come to the same conclusion: the Flag Smashers are super soldiers. Walker and Hoskins offer them a ride. Walker tries to convince them to work together, but Bucky hops out of the car and takes off. Sam follows shortly after.
The Flag Smashers arrive at an underground refugee base and discuss their mission. Karli Morgenthau, the leader and fake-hostage, receives a threatening text from an unknown number.
What Other New Characters Do We Meet?
Sam and Bucky fly back to base in silence. Bucky suggests they take the shield back, but Sam reminds him what happened the last time they tried that, so he redirects them to Baltimore, Maryland, to someone who may have information on the super soldiers.
He introduces Sam to Isaiah, an old war veteran and Black super soldier. Outside, Sam argues with Bucky for not telling him about Isaiah sooner. Police arrive and begin interrogating Sam. When another cop alerts the first cop who Sam is, the first cop apologizes. However, Bucky is placed under arrest for missing a court-ordered therapy session.
How Does The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 2 End?
Bucky is released from holding but Doctor Raynor demands an immediate session with Sam. In a loaded scene reminiscent of couples’ therapy, Bucky and Sam discuss their true feelings about Sam giving up the shield. Sam reminds Bucky that he thought he was doing the right thing – which Bucky and Steve may never understand. They agree to drop this argument, finish their mission, and then go their separate ways after – never to speak again.
Outside, Sam and Bucky once again turn down the opportunity to work with Walker. The two go off on their own and it’s then that Bucky reveals his plan, which Sam agrees to – they’re going to see Zemo.
