The Crow is back. The gothic Neo-Noir tale of revenge will make its return to the big screen. This time, Eric Draven will be played by Bill Skarsgård (It/It Chapter 2, Deadpool 2). 35 years after James O’Barr introduced the character to comic book readers, the supernatural being is out for vengeance once again in The Crow reboot and the first trailer reveals some intense moments.
There has been plenty of attempts to bring The Crow back to the big screen. There was even a time where Jason Momoa was attached to the project. Based on the trailer, it looks pretty promising. Skarsgård is a great actor and seems to be a good fit for the role though some loyal fans of the original live-action film starring the late Brandon Lee, son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, were not impressed with the way Skarsgård looks in the film.
The Crow reboot is the first installment since The Crow: Wicked Prayer back in 2005. The upcoming film is a full on reboot and you don’t have to remember anything from the previous Crow projects. The reboot is supposed to be very bloody and violent.
Lionsgate shares the film’s synopsis: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
The Crow reboot is directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) and is written by Zach Baylin (Will Smith’s King Richard) and Will Schneider. The film also stars Isabella Wei, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila and Jordan Bolger.
This will be a new start for the franchise, but many fans are still showing loyalty to the original film. Lee’s accidental death while filming 1994’s The Crow will forever be in the minds and hearts of fans. Sanders previously said to Variety that Lee would be proud of The Crow reboot because “his soul is very much alive in this film.”
