While the release of The Batman is still almost a month away, it’s not stopping those who got an early peak from speaking out.
One such person sent their Batman early reaction to Erik Weber, the Editor-in-Chief of AwardsAce.com, who took to Twitter to share the description, which called Matt Reeves’ take on the legendary DC icon “complex” and “controversial.”
“Received a text from a source who’s seen #TheBatman calling it a “complex” film, comparing it to: ZODIAC, CHINATOWN, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS,” he wrote in his tweet. “Source also stating it will be “controversial” and people will discuss it “endlessly.””
The word “controversial” is never one fans want to hear, and it’s sure to get fans of the DC Universe talking and spreading rumors and The Batman early reactions before the film’s official release on March 4.
The good news is the films that the source compared The Batman to some of the most creative and beloved cinematic movies in history, so that is sure to excite fans even more.
There’s been a lot written about whether Robert Pattinson can pull off Batman/Bruce Wayne, and if Reeves is able to revive the character into the status the superhero deserves.
And from what’s known about the film so far, his script isn’t pulling any punches, with an array of the Dark Knight’s foes on board, including Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot/The Penguin, a rising crime lord; and Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, a serial killer who targets elite Gotham citizens.
The Batman will follow Bruce Wayne early in his “career” as a costumed vigilante. With the help of allies such as Alfred Pennyworth and Lt. James Gordon, he sets out to clean up Gotham City.
There’s plenty of hope that The Batman will reestablish the character as a stronghold for DC and Warner Bros., and it will ignite the franchise with successful sequels in the future.
