The Batman 2 is happening and Robert Pattinson is returning as the latest Dark Knight. Matt Reeves, the director of the critically-acclaimed The Batman, confirmed the sequel at this year’s CinemaCon, which reassure’s fans of the Reeve’s vision for Gotham City and his take on Batman will continue for years to come.
Reeves briefly took the stage at CinemaCon to address the room of exhibitors: “Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”
The Batman Is A Box-Office Hit Paving a Way for The Batman 2
There was no doubt that The Batman 2 would happen knowing how well it did at the box-office. The DC film hit $760 million at the international box office and streamed at 4.1 million households in its first week on HBO Max making it a big success for the studio. This is a huge deal for Warner Bros. taking into account that some folks are still hesitant to flock to movie theaters due to the effects of the pandemic. The Batman is also was a success among critics.
The Batman takes place in “Year Two” of Bruce Wayne fighting crime as the Dark Knight. Though Robert Pattinson’s Batman has become feared among the criminals of Gotham, he still needs to gain the trust of its law-abiding citizens. The Batman sees Bruce battling crime lords while trying to also catch the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer who believes killing Gotham’s corrupt leaders is a way to “clean up” the city.
Joining Robert Pattinson in The Batman are Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone. For now, only Pattinson is confirmed to return for The Batman 2.
The end of the film teased Barry Keoghan’s Joker inside Arkham Asylum. After a couple weeks of The Batman’s theatrical release, director Matt Reeves released a deleted Joker scene online featuring a conversation between Batman and Keoghan’s Joker. It has not been confirmed if The Batman 2 will feature the Joker or if Keoghan will reprise that role.
