AMC Networks announced the official release date for its latest spinoff show from The Walking Dead Universe. AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology series brings new and familiar characters to tell new stories from the post-apocalyptic world. The new TWD show will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on August 14 at 9 p.m. ET. The networks streaming service will debut the first two episodes on the same night but starting August 21, newer episodes will air a week earlier on AMC+.
The show will feature a range of human emotions through different characters discovering the universe of The Walking Dead. According to AMC Networks, “Tales of the Walking Dead consists of six original one-hour standalone episodes focused on both new and established characters within the walker apocalypse. Each episode has its own distinct tone and point of view — but the stakes are high in each story, pushing new, indelible characters with relentless, life-threatening choices and situations. We get to see the apocalypse through different eyes, discovering more worlds, mythos, and mysteries of the Walking Dead.”
AMC’s Tales of the Walking Dead features a star-studded list of actors that will fight to survive (or not) the zombie apocalypse. Included in the cast are Olivia Munn (The Newsroom, X-Men: Apocalypse), Anthony Edwards (Top Gun, Inventing Anna, WeCrashed), Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead, Harlots), Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Parker Posey (Lost In Space), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), Poppy Liu (Dead Ringers), Jillian Bell (Rough Night), Loan Chabanol (Fading Gigolo), Embeth Davidtz (Old, Ray Donovan), Jessie T. Usher (Shaft, The Boys), and Daniella Pineda (Cowboy Bebop).
“Anthony, Jillian, Terry, Parker, and Poppy are the first wave of singular talents who will further expand the Walking Dead Universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt, and horrifying new realms and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family, along with these terrific directors. More announcements, more wonderful folks to come,” said Walking Dead Universe chief content officer Scott M. Gimple in a statement.
Coming up for The Walking Dead Universe are also Isle of the Dead which follows Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) to Manhattan and the untitled Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) series. Both will premiere sometime in 2023.
