Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles is joining Amazon’s original series The Boys for season 3! With season 2 yet to start, Amazon Prime Video is amping up the energy already. Ackles shared the news this morning on his Instagram and Amazon Prime Video confirmed the casting. Check it out below.
Ackles will be playing Soldier Boy, “the original Superhero. After Soldier Boy fought in World War II, he became the first super celebrity, and a mainstay of American culture for decades.” Sounds kind of familiar. But don’t get too crazy excited if you’re expecting that same Captain America Mjolnir-carrying worthiness and courage. Soldier Boy appears in The Boys comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. There, he really wanted to join the Seven and will do anything to get the chance. The thing is, he’s more of an awkward coward. At least in the comic books. We’ll see how Soldier Boy will be portrayed in the Amazon series.
Showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke also created Supernatural. Kripke half-jokingly said, “When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream—to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.” Ackles plays one of the protagonists, Dean Winchester in Supernatural. That series is coming to a finale.
The Boys season 2 starts September 4, 2020 on Amazon Video. For all you Supernatural and Dean fans out there, are you excited for Jensen Ackles joining The Boys for season 3?
