SPOILER ALERT
Jon Favreau, writer and creator of The Mandalorian, has proven time and again that he’s an ultimate Star Wars fan, as he’s been able to incorporate plenty of nostalgia and fun into the popular Disney+ series. For the finale of The Mandalorian Season 2, Favreau includes the ultimate cameo. (Don’t read ahead if you haven’t watched!)
None other than Luke Skywalker himself appears in the episode, thanks to a CGI version of a younger Mark Hamill, and naturally, his trusted R2D2 joins him as well.
According to Deadline, this well-kept secret has been brewing all season and the story finds Luke taking The Child (Baby Yoda or Grogu) with him to train in the ways of the Jedi. How great was it to see Luke flying aboard his X-Wing Fighter, slicing through Stormtroopers and dark troopers?
Whether or not this means the end of the extremely popular character on the show is unknown, but it’s hard to believe that Disney would just sent Grogu off never to be seen again.
The finale also uncovered a lot about Boba Fett as the bounty hunter was able to take down Bib Fortuna and the rest of Jabba the Hutt’s crew and take command of Jabba’s palace. It was announced after the credits that Fett would be getting his own show next year — The Book of Boba Fett.
Elsewhere, Mando agreed to join Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves in their quest to retake Mandalore in exchange for their help in rescuing The Child. In the process, Mando became King of Mandalore and his attempts to hand it over to Bo-Katan, but is denied, with Gideon announcing he two must fight for power to change hands. So, next season we may find Mando becoming the leader he doesn’t want to be.
Season 3 is certainly shaping up to a be a good one, and Star Wars fans can expect plenty more surprises.
