Fans of Stranger Things received another season of thrills and scares from the Upside Down with season 4. This time, the season is broken up into 2 volumes. Stranger Things Season 4 also has longer episodes than previous seasons. The first volume ended with episode 7 which had a runtime of one hour and forty minutes. Volume 2 premieres July 1st and previous reports have suggested that the Stranger Things Season 4 finale would be about two and half hours. Now the official ST writer’s Twitter account revealed the actual runtime is 2 hours and 19 minutes.

Stranger Things Writers Explain Why Season 4 Has Longer Episodes

“A lot of it had to do with the fact that we had characters spread out in three locations and we had a lot more plot. It must be quadruple the plot we had in Season 3,” Matt Duffer previously told TheWrap. “That was our fun blockbuster season. This season we knew that Season 5 was going to be our last, we had to start revealing a lot.”

“The more we were writing, the more we realized we need more time in order for these reveals to land, in order for these storylines to work,” Matt added. “Partway through we knew we needed to ask Netflix for nine episodes instead of eight and as we started shooting we realized, ‘Oh these are mega-long episodes.'”

David Harbour Talks About Season 5

Series star David Harbour (Jim Hopper) recently spoke to Variety about the fifth and final season of Stranger Things and teased what’s to come in the final season.

“I think it varies from person to person, from character to character, and I’m such a harassment specialist that I think I’ve gotten it out of them. It’s been back and forth about like, ‘What happens to Hopper? Is he a character that’s able to survive Hawkins or does he die?'” Harbour teased. “I know what happens and it’s quite moving and quite beautiful.”

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 follows our Hawkins heroes in four places. Eleven/Jane (Millie Bobby Brown) is taken to a secret location so she can re-learn how to harness her powers while Mike (Fin Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) go on a road trip from California to try to locate Eleven. Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Murray (Brett Gelmman) are trying to rescue Hopper from a Russian prison that happens to be housing a demogorgon. The remaining heroes left in Hawkins which includes Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Steve (Joe Keery), Lucas (Calen McLaughlin), Max (Sadie Sink), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Robin (Maya Hawke), are all trying to uncover the mysteries of season 4’s villain — Vecna.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 is now streaming Netflix. Volume 2 premieres July 1 with episode 8 and the Stranger Things Season 4 finale.
