Stranger Things Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

While fans have patiently awaited news of when Stranger Things would bow its fourth season on Netflix, the sci-fi horror series was renewed for a fifth—and final—season to come sometime next year.

The show originated back in 2016, but even before the pandemic delayed things, Stranger Things has always seemed to have trouble getting seasons shot in a timely fashion, thus the reason Season 4 has yet to stream six years later.

Netflix released a letter to fans on its blog informing them that the new season—which they are calling Stranger Things 4—would be split into two halves, with the first series of episodes debuting on May 27 and the second set to air July 1.

Additionally, show creators Matt and Ross Duffer unveiled that the show will conclude with Stranger Things 5 on Netflix.

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,’ the Duffer Brothers wrote. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but—as you’ll soon see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”

The duo promised lots of exciting adventures ahead for everyone’s favorite teens and their adult handlers.

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” they continued. “But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down. As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”

The cast, which includes Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo, are all back for the upcoming season and expected to be part of the Stranger Things universe until the end.
