One of the most memorable moments in Stranger Things is season 4’s episode “Dear Billy” when Max (Sadie Sink) was rescued from Vecna’s grasp when her friends started playing her favorite song, “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush. The song released back in 1985 and now Bush has found a whole new audience through the hit Netflix show and music streamers like Spotify.
The Kate Bush song has topped charts since Stranger Things 4 Volume 1 premiered back in May. The scene with Max was very emotional and having Bush’s song play while she escaped Vecna became a viral sensation sending “Running Up That Hill” to top 5 on the Billboard charts and number one in the U.K.
But the question is, what song would save YOU from Vecna’s nightmarish trance? What song do you love hearing so much over and over that it would overpower the darkness of the Upside Down?
Stranger Things 4: Volume 2 is coming to Netflix tomorrow, July 1 and the streaming service and Spotify created “The Upside Down” playlist. Together they will help you find your very own “Running Up That Hill”. The music streamer created an Upside Down playlist for everyone to check out their No. 1 song to wake you from Vecna’s trance.
The way it works is that Spotify’s algorithms create your own “Upside Down Playlist” using songs you love listening to. The first song that comes up may be the one to save you from Vecna. Here’s how Spotify explains the collaboration:
Spotify explains, “The Upside Down Playlist takes some of your favorite songs and mixes them with a handful of Stranger Things classics to create a vibe strong enough to ward off Hawkins’ most fearsome foe.”
Stranger Things 4: Volume 2 premieres Friday, July 1 at 12am PST / 3am EST on Netflix. The official runtime for the final two episodes are one hour and a half for episode 8 and 2 hours and 19 minutes for the season finale.
