When Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor comes to Disney+ in May, fans of the franchise will be treated to some familiar faces it seems if online reports are to be believed.
Numerous online sources have been posting a synopsis that shows that Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) will encounter a number of former Jedi allies, only this time they will be working for the Galactic Empire.
“During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission,” the synopsis notes. “Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”
Of course, that could be talking about Darth Vader (a returning Hayden Christensen from the movies) who had been previously announced, but it reads more as if there will be others.
The spin-off series is set approximately a decade after the events of Revenge of the Sith.
With the show less than two months away, McGregor has been busy with the press, revealing some key details and creating plenty of excitement about the show.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor said Obi-Wan is introduced as being rather broken, faithless, and beaten.
“[He’s] somewhat given up,” McGregor said. “He’s different because of what’s happened at the end of Episode III with Order 66 and the Jedi Order being slaughtered and everyone who survived going into hiding. After dealing with his personal failure with Anakin, he feels the responsibility that he allowed Anakin to be tempted over to the Dark Side.”
He added that Obi-Wan Kenobi feels that his teaching wasn’t strong enough to protect Anakin and that weighs heavily on his mind and sets fort the events of the show.
Obi-Wan Kenobi also stars Kumail Nanjiani (Marvel’s Eternals), Sung Kang, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Bonnie Piesse, and Joel Edgerton.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin streaming on May 25 on Disney+.
