Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to set records with its digital release within the first week of release. The third Spider-Man film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be easily said to be one of the most ambitious Marvel films since Avengers: Endgame.

The Sony and Marvel Studios film is already the highest-grossing film in 2021 and ranks sixth highest-grossing film of all time. It’s also expected to break the $800 million domestic US Box office. No Way Home is only the third film to break that record after Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Part of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s success is from the return of characters from previous versions of the Spider-Man franchise. Seeing Willem Dafoe reprise his Green Goblin role from the first Spider-Man movie, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2, Rhys If an as Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man, and Jamie Foxx from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 gave fans plenty of nostalgia. Then featuring both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective Spider-Man variants had fans going wild. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock cameo in the beginning of the film was also a nice touch.

Marvel and Sony’s collaborative Spider-Man movie paid off big as the film has grossed $1.886 billion worldwide. According to Deadline, Spider-Man: No Way Home digital release has resulted in 2.1 million units in the US within its first week. That would result in an approximate $42 million within the first seven days of No Way Home being available for digital release.

The film’s success is no surprise to those who have seen it. It’s also no surprise the Spider-Man: No Way Home digital sales would be this good from the start. This only continues to show Marvel Studios and Sony have a character that is profitable and enjoyed by many fans.

At some point, No Way Home was rumored to be the last Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland as the web-slinger. Thankfully, Holland directly made an appeal to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony Chairman Tom Rothman to resume the negotiations after they stalled.

With this success, it’s only logical for both Sony and Marvel to continue to use Holland’s heroic appeal for their joint venture and to keep Spider-Man within the MCU. A fourth Spider-Man film is already being developed with Holland coming back as Peter Parker.

But for now, fans can enjoy Spider-Man: No Way Home at the comfort of their own homes with its digital release now available.
