In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 1, we see Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) practicing for a trial. She rehearses her statements to a paralegal woman and a male lawyer. The paralegal loves it but the lawyer is highly critical.

The paralegal brushes off the lawyer and tells Jennifer she’ll do fine. After leaving the office, Jennifer takes a moment to turn the camera. She breaks the fourth wall to explain to the audience her backstory.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 1 then flashes back to a few months ago when Jennifer was on vacation. She’s driving with her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), better known as the Hulk. He explains to her how he’s able to keep his human form.

As they drive, they encounter a Sakaaran spaceship that crashes into their car. The car is sent flying off the road and into a forest. Both Jennifer and Bruce are injured in the crash.

Jennifer exits the car bruised and bloodied. She helps Bruce out of the car who is also bleeding. Bruce tries to warn her but it’s too late: some of his blood spills into her open wounds.

Bruce’s radioactive blood immediately merges with Jennifer’s body. She quickly transforms into a green Hulk. She finds herself fleeing through the woods in a blind rage.

Jennifer later awakens in her human form when she stumbles into a small town. She goes to a bar where she makes her way to the bathroom. She attempts to clean herself up and figure out her situation.

While in the bathroom, she is approached by several women. They help her out by giving her some new clothes and a makeover. Jennifer states she needs to call Bruce and the women are eager to lend her their phones.

While Jennifer waits for Bruce to pick her up, several men exit the bar. They attempt to make a pass at Jennifer but she’s not having it. She angrily tells them to back off and turns into her Hulk form once again. Jennifer soon blacks out.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 1 continues with Jennifer waking up at a secret location in Mexico. Bruce, now in his Hulk form, explains why he brought Jennifer here. This is his secret base where he learned to curb and control his Hulk form.

Jennifer is hesitant to accept Bruce’s help. She’s especially resistant after learning that Bruce’s program could take 15 years to master. Jennifer ultimately just wants to get back to being a lawyer.

Bruce runs a series of tests to see how well Jennifer can master her Hulk abilities. He gives her a test of fear and anger by locking her in a room of blades. The blades get close enough that she transforms and breaks out of the room.

When Jennifer Hulks out, however, Bruce is stunned that she’s not mindless. Jennifer doesn’t have to grapple with another side of herself the same way Bruce did. This development changes his plans.

Jennifer thinks she’s well enough to return to work. Bruce, however, wants her to figure out more of her abilities and how to adjust as a Hulk. He starts aggressively by waking her up with an airhorn, causing her to turn into a Hulk.

Bruce gives Jennifer a few pointers on the specs of being a Hulk. The wardrobe should primarily consist of spandex for accommodating Hulk status. Apartments should be big enough to accommodate the size as well.

Jennifer and Bruce engage in physical tests as well. Bruce demonstrates how to throw rocks with ease. Jennifer performs this task so well that Bruce shows off by throwing a rock into the atmosphere.

Jennifer starts getting into being a Hulk both also still loathe the experience. Bruce decides to let her in on a bonus to being a Hulk: resistance to alcohol.

Jennifer and Bruce spend a night getting drunk. They drink tons of booze while talking about how Bruce would hang with Tony Stark. Jennifer wakes up the next morning with a hangover, something that Bruce takes care to note for the future.

Jennifer further addresses how she’s different from Bruce. She brings up how the anger she feels is more societal. She also brings up how it’s something that Bruce could never understand and calms her Hulk form after this admittance.

Having had enough of the training, Jennifer decides to leave. Bruce, however, doesn’t feel she’s ready to return to the life of a lawyer. He would rather she remain a superhero instead.

Jennifer nearly leaves in a Jeep before showing concern for having driven Bruce into a rock pile. Bruce mocks her a bit and an angered Jennifer turns into a Hulk to fight him. The two engage in combat where they pound on each other.

At one point, Bruce manages to knock Jennifer back with his powerful clap. Jennifer tries itself but doesn’t produce as heavy a sound. When she keeps doing it, however, she generates loud enough sounds to knock back Bruce.

The fight continues as Bruce tackles Jennifer down to the beach. During their fight, they end up destroying the bar that Bruce built. Distraught, Bruce demands she help rebuild the bar.

While rebuilding the bar, Bruce relents. He says that he was wrong about Jennifer and that she can return to her life as a lawyer. Having now fully caught up with the audience on her backstory, Jennifer proceeds to her trial in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 1.

Jennifer is nervous about her opening statements. Before she can deliver them, the trial is interrupted by the arrival of the villain Titania. The paralegal urges Jennifer to turn into her Hulk form.

Jennifer is reluctant but only because she likes her suit. She takes off her shoes and turns into the Hulk. She easily takes down Titania with two punches.

Jennifer then turns back into her human form. She puts back on her shoes and straightens her ripped suit. Jennifer states she’s ready to give her remarks.

In the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law episode 1 mid-credit scene, Jennifer and Bruce are drinking at the bar and talking about Steve Rogers. Jennifer brings up how he was a virgin. Bruce reveals that Steve lost his virginity in the 1940s on a USO tour.

Jennifer is excited by this info. Bruce is confused about why. Jennifer then shouts “Captain America Fu–.”
