DC and Warner Bros. just released a new trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods and reveals a tough road ahead for our superhero foster family. The new trailer, which you can watch below, teases a whole new look for our heroes as they battle new magical threats.
The Shazam! Fury of the Gods new trailer shows Billy Batson and the rest of the Shazam! family being forced back into action when a new threat arrives in the form of the Daughters of Atlas. The heroes must stop them using from a weapon that could destroy the world while also trying to make peace with the Gods because Billy was taking their powers for granted.
“I loved the first Shazam movie,” DC Studios co-CEO and producer Peter Safran told Collider last year. “I thought it was beautifully done. I thought that David Sandberg nailed that tone so incredibly well. The eye of the needle was so small to get it right, but he really did nail it. I feel like this second one has more emotion, more humor, but it also has bigger action, bigger set pieces, some great villains. I just feel like it’s everything that we loved in the first movie but really turned up to 11. So I love it.”
“I think the addition of some of these new characters with Rachel Zegler and Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are fantastic editions,” Safran continued. “I love that the kids are all a little bit older now so we get to have a little bit more fun in kind of an edgier fashion with them. Zach inhabits that character in such a beautiful fashion. So to have been able to make a second one of those, it’s a thrill.”
Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as Billy Batson / Shazam!, Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield, Adam Brody as Super Hero Freddy, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Meagan Good as Super Hero Darla, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Ross Butler as Super Hero Eugene, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena, D.J. Cotrona as Super Hero Pedro, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, and Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez. Joining the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 hit are Rachel Zeglar in an unknown role, Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is one of the four DC films releasing in 2023. The Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are the other DC films set to debut this year. Since the hiring of DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, there has been a shake up and fans, along with cast members, have been left wondering what DC projects and actors are on the chopping block. Sources have said that DC Studios is willing to keep Ezra Miller as the Flash regardless of his troubles. According to reports, Miller has stayed out of trouble since starting mental health treatment. Unfortunately, DC Studios has parted ways with Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill and will no longer be playing Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman.
Fury of the Gods premieres March 17, 2023 in theaters. You can watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods new trailer below.
