Scream 6’s digital and streaming release date has been confirmed by a new video by Paramount+. The sixth film in the franchise is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet, the duo that also directed Scream 5. The first 4 Scream films were directed by slasher films veteran Wes Craven.
Scream 6 follows-up with Scream 5 survivors Sam (Melissa Barrera) and her sister, Tara (Jenna Ortega). This time, they’ll face off against a new Ghostface in New York. The slasher film received mostly positive reviews from both audiences and critics upon its theatrical release and now has earned over $168 million at the global box office.
In a new trailer by Paramount Movies via Comicbook.com, Scream 6 is revealed to release on streaming platforms starting, Tuesday, April 25. You can see the video below.
Scream 6’s digital purchase coincides with its release on Paramount+ streaming service joining the rest of the films from the Ghostface franchise.
Scream 6 recently surpassed the 1996 original and its sequel at the box office. 2022’s Scream also earned strong reviews and performed well commercially, ending its run at $137.7 million worldwide. The box office performance of Scream 5 led to Paramount green lighting a sixth movie only weeks after the movie hit theaters.
So what does Scream 6’s box office success mean for the franchise? While a seventh Scream film hasn’t been announced, it’s very likely the movie will get an update in the near future, with Paramount Pictures capitalizing on the franchise’s resurgence. Although the directing duo hope to continue making Scream movies, they also expressed their ambition to make other types of movies.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet recently became attached to direct an untitled monster movie for Universal, with Scream 5 and 6 star Melissa Barrera. With this project involving the directing duo, it could mean Scream 7 will be helmed by a new director.
