The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power full schedule was released and it reveals the first two episodes will release on the same day. Prime Video’s The Rings of Power is one of the most anticipated TV shows for 2022 that is set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy world of Middle Earth in the Second Age. The series will see the rise of Sauron and other events revealing the creation of nineteen powerful rings and the one to rule them all.

Prime Video’s The Rings of Power will premiere with two episodes on September 1 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. After that, each episode will follow a one-a-week schedule which will stream at 12 a.m. ET on Fridays / 9 p.m. PT on Thursdays. The Rings of Power Season 1 consists of eight episodes with the finale streaming on October 14. The multiple episode drop isn’t new for Prime Video original content. The Boys and several other Prime Video original shows have done the same.

The show takes place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Because elves live a really, really long time, some familiar characters are confirmed to make appearances including younger versions of Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Eldron (Robert Aramayo). Prime Video’s The Rings of Power isn’t based on any particular Tolkien book, but more on pages of Appendices that explore Middle-Earth’s history.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will probably be dissected by many fans and critics because it is such a highly-anticipated show with a large following. So having a two-episode premiere could help the show avoid negative reviews by following up the first episode, which usually the main story is not fully in focus yet, with episode two that potentially dives deeper into that story.

Thanks to the two-episode premiere, viewers should get an even better understanding of the new characters being introduced such as Númenor’s queen Míriel(Cynthia Addai-Robinson), the forger of the Rings of Power, Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), and many more major players in the Second Age of Middle-Earth.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powers release date is September 1 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
