Peter Dinklage Shares Thoughts On HBO’s GOT Prequel ‘House of the Dragon’

The Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage who played Tyrion Lannister had some thoughts on HBO’s prequel show titled House of the Dragon. During a talk with The Independent, Dinklage said he is excited to watch the upcoming show as a fan who has no clue about the story. These stars have become very good in hiding what they actually know. Just ask Andrew Garfield.

Peter Dinklage also spoke about the pitfalls that some spinoffs experience. In order to avoid being a “money grab”, House of the Dragon needs to stand on its own.

“I think the trick is not to try to recreate Thrones,” Dinklage said. “If you try to recreate it, that feels like a money grab. With a lot of sequels, the reason for them is that the first one made a lot of money, which is why they aren’t as strong. But I am excited to watch the House of the Dragon, purely as a viewer, not knowing what will happen next.”

The Game of Thrones star also briefly discussed the ending of Game of Thrones. The last season was a mixed-bag among fans and critics. Dinklage believed that Daenerys’ turn to the “mad queen” wasn’t actually out of left-field. The actor said the clues were there.

“People were just mad because nobody wanted it to be over,” Dinklage said. “I know a lot of people were supposedly surprised by the ending, but if you paid attention, the clues were there. We told you not to name your dog Khaleesi.”

House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max these year, but no specific release date has been announced. George R.R. Martin commented on House of the Dragon, saying he saw a rough cut of episode one and he was impressed.

“It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy,” Martin said.

House of the Dragon is set hundred of years before the events of Game of Thrones. The HBO fantasy drama will follow House Targaryen. The shows description is below.

“As King Viserys (Paddy Considine) reaches the end of his reign, a brutal battle for succession kicks off between his beloved daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and his second wife Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who wants the throne for her sons.”

Matt Smith (Doctor Who) and Rhys Ifans (Harry Potter) also star in the series. This show should reveal a lot of Targaryen history and perhaps what led to Game of Thrones. For sure we’ll miss seeing the faces of Peter Dinklage, Kit Harrington, and Emilia Clarke.
