The rumors are true, Paramount is developing more Star Trek films. The three possible Trekkie movies take drastic turns in the Star Trek universe and take the franchise to uncharted territories!
While several TV spinoffs have launched to big fanfare ( Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks), the film production side stalled after Star Trek Beyond underperformed at the box office. Now, Noah Hawley’s latest Trekkie film is vying for production along with two other possible projects.
Hawley’s film is more or less a homage to his love of the original series and centers around a pandemic. While he inked the deal to make the movie back in 2019, nothing has happened. Concerns that Hawley’s production would add a new cast along with a galaxy-wide pandemic storyline, stalled the project.
Another possible Star Trek film promises to be a huge thriller. The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith wrote it for Quentin Tarantino to direct, and center around a specific episode in the franchise’s history. The movie places the film in a “largely earthbound in a 30s gangster setting.” Interestingly, Tarantino is no longer tied to the project, but it’s still moving forward.
Lastly, the third film reunites the cast from the JJ Abrams trilogy for another adventure. There is even discussion of bringing back Chris Hemsworth as Chris Pine’s father. Now, wouldn’t that be exciting to watch? No matter what the next Star Trek movie will be, one thing is certain, fans will be thrilled!
