Ewan McGregor returns to the Star Wars Universe as the iconic Jedi Master in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show after 17 years. What has Jedi Master Kenobi been up to since we last saw him?

Where Does Obi-Wan Kenobi Take Place in the Star Wars timeline?

The timeline is set between the prequels and original trilogy. According to Disney+, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show takes place 10 years after Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. At the end of the film, we see Obi-Wan go into hiding on Tatooine. This makes Luke and Leia around 10 years old. It’s been a decade now that Anakin Skywalker has turned into Darth Vader. Obi-Wan is now watching over Luke from a distance.

Don’t Remember What Obi-Wan Did in the Prequel Trilogy? Here’s A Quick Reminder

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace

Jedi master Qui-Gon Jin (Liam Neeson) and his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi make an emergency stop on Tatooine where they meet a young Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon believes that young Anakin is the “chosen one” based on his midichlorian count. (Midichlorian was never mentioned in the original trilogy). Qui-Gon is killed by Darth Maul (Ray Park). Obi-Wan takes the responsibility for training Anakin.

Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

Obi-Wan Kenobi, now Master to an unstable teen Anakin, goes on a solo mission to Kamino where a clone army is being created. He encounters Jango Fett, Boba Fett’s father. The brotherhood between Obi-Wan and Anakin is stronger in this episode but Anakin also shares his frustration towards his master’s ways. At the end, they both confront Count Dooku (the late Christopher Lee). They both lose to Dooku but are saved by Yoda.

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith

Anakin Skywalker is more powerful than ever and even more unstable as his love and passion for Padmé sends him down the path towards anger. Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious manipulates Anakin into joining the dark side and he becomes Darth Vader. Order 66 (an order to eradicate all Jedi) was given by Palpatine. Yoda and Obi-Wan survive the massacre. Yoda in defeat against Palpatine retreats and goes into hiding. Obi-Wan and Darth Vader have their epic duel. Obi-Wan defeats Anakin by having the higher ground. Obi-Wan leaves Vader to die but is unaware that Palpatine was able to save Vader with a life support suit — behold Vader’s iconic costume.

Do You Need To watch Any of the Star Wars TV Shows?

Not really. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands. Obi-Wan was featured in both animated shows Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Several of the characters that will be featured in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show were introduced in Star Wars Rebels. Clones Wars takes place after Episode 2 and during and after Episode 3. Rebels takes place after Episode 3. Obi-Wan appears in the third season. Both animated shows are available on Disney+.

Who Are the Villains of the Show?

Based off the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailers, the villains of the show are the Inquisitors. They are a group of trained hunters in the ways of the Sith. They were first introduced in Star Wars Rebels. Their leader is known as the Grand Inquisitor. In the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the Grand Inquisitor is played by Rupert Friend and Inquisitor Reva is played by Moses Ingram. All the Inquisitors are trained to use lightsabers and work for Darth Vader with the purpose of tracking down Obi-Wan and remaining Jedi.

Darth Vader is the Main Villain of the Show

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series marks the return of Darth Vader in live-action format. He was last seen in Star Wars: Rogue One. Star Wars Episode 2 and 3 star Hayden Christensen returns as Vader and this time he’s on a personal mission to find and have his revenge on his old master. Star Wars fans are anticipating the reunion of the former friends and once again see them in another epic duel.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere Friday, May 27 with new episodes every Friday until the finale on June 24th.
