After a number of Marvel Studios films, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes has gone from side character to villain to the star of his own Disney+ show — The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Being the Winter Soldier, Bucky has gone through a rollercoaster of emotions and actions. His character arc might have gone through the most evolution in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was brainwashed to become a Russian assassin, framed as T’Chaka’s killer, and had to deal with the guilt of killing people including Tony Stark’s parents.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier show gave Sebastian Stan a chance to showcase Bucky’s newly found life. It’s like a second chance in life. A second chance for peace (when he’s not chasing down other super soldiers). And also got closer to his pal, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) aka The Falcon and the new Captain America.
Sebastian Stan on Bucky Barnes Future in the MCU
Sebastian Stan recently caught up with Variety about his future as Bucky Barnes in the MCU. Good news for Marvel fans as Stan confirmed he’ll continue as long as Marvel Studios wants him.
“It’s not up to me. I don’t make these decisions. As long as they’ll keep calling, I’m there,” Stan explained. “I don’t know. I get old, too. Like everyone in the world, I AGE! So I don’t know what that means. Maybe it doesn’t mean anything! I have no idea. I’m just going for the ride.”
When Stan was asked if he’d keep playing the role of Bucky Barnes until he’s 80 years old, he didn’t shoot down the idea. The Winter Soldier turned White Wolf from Wakanda would keep going as long as he’s allowed.
“May I be so lucky. It’s really quite wild, it really is. A lot of people on TV, there are shows that have gone on for so many seasons, Friends, I mean, there’s a lot of where…you get to go and play a character for such a long period of time. It’s like gaining a family member. You gain, like, a brother or something in this case for me. You get to see this character again and again, and then you’re always growing up, and they’re sort of growing up with you in a weird way.”
It’s uncertain right now where we’ll see Bucky next, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Sebastian Stan appears alongside Anthony Mackie in the upcoming Captain America 4 movie. There’s also a big chance that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will get a second season.
All episodes of the award winning show, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, are now streaming on Disney+. Sebastian Stan’s current project is playing Tommy Lee for an original Hulu series about the Mötley Crüe member and his marriage to Pamela Anderson (Lily James).
