While fans are plenty excited about the new slate of Marvel films that start next week with the release of Black Widow, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is adding some more thrills to the week by announcing the release of a new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings before the NBA playoffs.
The movie, which will be released on Sept. 3, follows the debut of Shang-Chi in the MCU, and the fan-favorite is expected to be a big part of the Marvel canvas for years to come.
On its Twitter account, Marvel revealed the new Shang-Chi trailer will debut during NBA Countdown on ESPN ahead of the next game of the playoffs tonight, a contest between the Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns.
The account even gave a glimpse of what’s to come with a sneak snippet of the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ring, which reveals a bit about the epic action that the movie will contain.
Shang-Chi co-creator Jim Starlin recently was a guest on the Phase Zero podcast and revealed a bit more about what fans can expect from the upcoming film and the MCU character.
“The transition from basically assassin to a hero, an indomitable will, and a sort of religious discipline, basically,” Starlin described about Shang-Chi. “I think those are the three elements that make Shang-Chi more than any other character. He’s basically focused on the moment and what has to be done. That focus allows him to go on without being stopped, making it very hard to stop him at least.”
Some info has previously been released about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with the studio championing the movie on its site.
Starring Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, the film follows the hero as he must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.
The Marvel phase 4 film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan. Additional casting includes Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng. Tune into the NBA Playoffs to see the new Shang-Chi trailer coming out tonight.
