Netflix movies have continued to roll out with lots of star-power with top Hollywood directors like Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead recently released on the streaming platform. Last years Old Guard with Charlize Theron was a big hit and there was Michael Bay’s Six Underground starring Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds. Coming up next is Gunpowder Milkshake — a movie about a group of female assassins that have to go up against a lot of bad guys. The film stars Karen Gillan who plays Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Lena Headey who plays Cersei in Game of Thrones.
The first trailer for Gunpowder Milkshake was released online and it introduces viewers to Sam (Karen Gillan), a second generation assassin, who was abandoned by her mother (Game of Throne’s Lena Headey) years earlier. Sam will have to reunite with her mom to protect an 8-year-old girl after a job goes bad. The mother-daughter team must call on a society of underground female assassins, which includes Carla Guigina (Watchmen, The Haunting of Hill House), Angela Bassett (Black Panther), and Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians).
Based off what we saw in the Gunpowder Milkshake trailer, there’s going to be a lot of shooting, guns, diving on counter tops, sliding on the floor, diving while shooting a gun, slow motion, and female versus male assassins. It’s like female John Wicks being hunted by hitmen.
The trailer doesn’t reveal too much, but it seems like this group of underground female assassins will be rushed from one stylized fight after another. And Karen Gillan and Lena Headey are a good choice for this type of action.
Last February, StudioCanal CEO Anna Marsh described the project to Deadline as a “high-octane action film boasts a top-class lineup of kick-ass and smart female talent who promise to light up audiences worldwide.”
Gunpowder Milkshake is set to arrive on Netflix on July 14. Check out the trailer below:
