Sub-Zero Kills Scorpion’s Family In Cold Blood
Warner Bros. Pictures teased fans with a Mortal Kombat film trailer that was really a seven-minute clip of the opening scene. The new film opens nationwide simultaneously in theaters and streams on HBO Max on Friday, April 23, 2021. Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and Sub-Zero’s (Joe Taslim) rivalry is front and center in the new franchise reboot. With the movie franchise centered around the two fan favorites, it’s a given the film is expected to be a mega-hit.
In the clip, we see Scorpion as a simple warrior named Hanzo Hasashi. He is living a peaceful life with his wife, their young boy, and a baby. It’s a stirring image of family, fatherhood, and all that is good in his life. However, that idyllic scene turns to ice (literally) when Bi-Han AKA Sub-Zero, enters the picture. While Scorpion was fetching water, the villain comes upon his family. Vulnerable and unarmed, Scorpions’ wife and his young boy are at the mercy of Sub-Zero. The film also stars Lewis Tan, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Jessica McNamee, Max Huang, and Josh Lawson.
Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot Centers Aroung Two Characters
While the film clip is only seven minutes long, it’s packed with emotion and lays down the foundation for a thrilling dissection of Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s feud. The opening clip begins with Scorpion’s side of the story. In 17th Century Japan, Bi-Han leads the Lin Kuei assassins and attacks the village of Hanzo Hasashi and members of the rival Shirai Ryu ninja clan. He ruthlessly kills Hanzo’s wife and son.
Luckily, their infant daughter was placed in a secret place under the floorboards and survives. We get to see Hanzo create his iconic weapon and kills the Lin Kuei assassins. Then he confronts Bi-Han and the clip ends. There is no doubt about it, Sub-Zero and Scorpion’s rivalry will keep fans on the edge of their seat when the film premieres on April 23, 2021.
Is Sub-Zero Good or Bad?
Sub-Zero made his debut in the 1993 film, Mortal Kombat II. Fans of the video game and film franchise will know that Scorpion killed the Sub-Zero’s brother sometime between the video game and the original movie was released. The movie reboot starts with the 2011 Mortal Kombat game, with the original Sub-Zero’s origin story. With the varied storylines intersecting in the new film reboot, it’s tough to say who the real villain is. Are you excited to watch the movie?
