It’s really happening! After years or rumors, filming starts-and-stops and other challenges with getting a new Game of Thrones title in the works, the prequel, House of the Dragon, had its first trailer unveiled.
House of the Dragon Trailer Unleashed
Co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal and from executive producer and GOT legendary director Miguel Sapochnik, the much-anticipated HBO series, which will be released at some unspecified time in 2022, seems to have everything that Game of Thrones purists were hoping for.
Clocking in at a little over a minute, the trailer carries the words, “200 years before the fall of the throne” with a voice over that says “Gods, kings, fire, and blood. Dreams didn’t make us kings – dragons did.”
While the House of the Dragon trailer doesn’t give too much away, it does paint a nice picture of what’s to come—and even provides a hint at the titular dragon with a menacing roar.
Through a series of images, the House of the Dragon trailer introduces fans to the Targaryen family, which creators have already revealed would be the core family of the prequel. There’s looks at the Iron Throne, sword fights and not unexpectedly, lots of bright white hair.
HBO Max had previously noted that House of the Dragon would follow the tale of the line of kings that ruled Westeros before Robert Barratheon took the throne and, eventually, kicked off the events of Game of Thrones.
Among the star-studded cast are Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.
The show will eventually air on both HBO and HBO Max. Considering that Game of Thrones was HBO’s most popular series ever, the hope is high that the prequel will do huge numbers and continue the great legacy that the mothership provided for eight seasons.
