Ever since it was announced that Ewan McGregor would be revising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new Disney+ series of the same name, fans have been searching for any morsel of information about what’s expected. Star Wars fans will be delighted to know that the star of the show hinted at some outstanding lightsaber action expected, and that the actor has been training to get ready for the intense battles.
“For months, we’ve been doing these monster, two-and-a-half-hour sessions of sword fights and hand-to-hand stuff,” McGregor told The Hollywood Reporter.
Ewan McGregor Is No Stranger To Lightsabers
Of course, fans know that the actor can handle his weapon. Kenobi has done battle with the ancient saber before and it appears that the new battles will mirror more of what fans saw in the prequels rather than in the original trilogy.
Remember, the prequel films took the action of the lightsaber battles to new heights, depicting both Jedi and Sith at the height of their athletic prowess.
Star Wars fans know that between the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the Jedi master adopted a lifestyle of isolation, but McGregor’s comments could mean that his alone time didn’t necessarily preclude him from battles. Or, some speculate it simply could mean that the Disney+ series will feature flashbacks to when the Jedi was more actively taking part in the Clone Wars.
Since Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen has been confirmed as appearing in the new series, flashbacks of the two classic Star Wars characters makes a lot of sense, as Kenobi and Skywalker would have trained and learned together.
“It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker,” Christensen told StarWars.com. “Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them… It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”
Either way, there are some exciting moments ahead for sure with Ewan McGregor and the Obi-Wan Kenobi show.
