Empire Magazine released a new Halloween Kills image today and director David Gordan Green provided new story details about the sequel. The image shows the Halloween franchise’s iconic masked killer, Michael Myers, which seems to have Myers walking out of the burning house Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) set on fire during the climactic finale of the previous film.
As you may know by now, Mikey isn’t that easy to kill. Caged up in a cellar under a burning house couldn’t stop him. Sorry Laurie. Just keep trying.
New Halloween Kills Story Details Revealed
The Halloween Kills cast and crew are filled with amazement on how they managed to make a film (back in 2019) be sort of relevant to world events that followed. David Gordon Green’s latest interview with Empire, he spoke about the timely themes the sequel will have.
“This film is about community fear, paranoia, misinformation and crowd panic,” Green said. “This movie is a great popcorn genre movie and not really any kind of statement, but it’s strange how things line up. It couldn’t be a more interesting time to release a movie like this.”
Though the new Halloween Kills movie may sprinkle in socio-political themes, but it’s still going to be a horror/slasher film. More victims running while Myers walks and still happen to catch up to them.
“It’s about the creation of fear,” Green told GamesRadar. “It’s one thing to be afraid of the Boogey Man, to have someone who might be in the closet, under the bed, creeping around your house … but we wanted to explore next was confusion, misinformation, and paranoia. What happens when fear goes viral? You can’t just stick your head under the covers anymore.”
“When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story,” Greene continued. “But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.”
Halloween Kills is projected to hit theaters on October 15th, 2021.
