Kamala Khan isn’t your typical New Jersey teen. Unlike the other teens around the city, she believes superheroes are cool. She will become the young heroine in Marvel’s upcoming Ms. Marvel series and the trailer reveals her attaining cosmic powers.
Ms. Marvel Trailer Shows Kamala’s Cosmic Powers
Ms. Marvel follows how Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani) who is a big fan of Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel. She starts to develop powers and starts to use them against the rising danger in Jersey City. Just like her comic book version, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ms. Marvel likes to show she’s a fan fiction-writing nerd. She’s a comic book fan.
The Ms. Marvel trailer shows not a lot of Kamala’s peers understand how passionate she is about superheroes except her friend Bruno Carrelli (Matt Lints).
The difference from Marvel Comics, the Ms. Marvel trailer shows Kamala developing the power to enlarge parts of her body through some unexplained cosmic nature and involves her making energy constructs.
Kamala’s powers seen in the Ms. Marvel trailer may be a sign of how she’ll cross paths with Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau in Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels which isn’t set to release until February 17, 2023. Fortunately, fans don’t have to wait that long to see Kamala in action.
Kamala Khan made her Marvel Comics debut back in 2013 courtesy of Marvel writer G. Wilson and artist Adrian Alphona.
In 2019, Wilson spoke to Polygon. “I think there’re some characters who are very much set up for the big screen; they’re very naturally sort of cinematic. But with Ms. Marvel, we really weren’t interested in creating something that had very obvious film potential,” Wilson told us in 2019. “I was really leaning — and I know Adrian [Alphona] and Takeshi [Miyazawa] and all of the artists as well — were really leaning into the comic book-ness of this character. She’s got very comic-booky powers. God bless them trying to bring that to live action.”
The Ms. Marvel series on Disney+ is created by Bisha K. Ali, who previously worked on Loki and Netflix’s Sex Education. The show stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan.
