The Marvel Cinematic Universe has crossed over characters within each franchise. Either one character making an appearance in another character’s movie or multiple heroes teaming up like the Avengers films. The creative team has done a great job mapping out storylines and taking that crossover comic book approach and making it live-action. The interconnected nature of their storytelling is what a lot of fans have come to enjoy with the MCU’s films. On a smaller scale, now Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes aka Rhodey will make an appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series on Disney+.
There hasn’t been a lot of details revealed about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier except for the teaser trailer released during Disney’s Investor Day. We also know the series has a March release.
Recently, the Iron Man star Don Cheadle sat down with BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast and gave details about his character potentially crossing over to future Marvel projects. He already has his own upcoming Disney+ series, Armor Wars, but he will be appearing in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier series. How much and when is unknown.
“That’s some of the fun of the MCU, that we all get to show up in each other’s stories, and there are ways that we’re cross-platforming these characters, and they become storylines, sometimes, in the movies. And then these storylines in the movies become storylines in the shows,” Cheadle said.
“It’s really a fun and interesting and, by all imagination, completely open-ended — this can go anywhere,” he continued. “It’s great, I can’t wait to get in the room with the writers and figure out how all those things [connecting Armor Wars to the MCU] happen. You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show. So, it can be a lot.”
If the series is about some kind of military/government storyline similar to what we saw in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it makes sense to have Rhodes make an appearance since he has that military background just like Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
The MCU does do a great job with its character crossover films. Future projects from the studio include Doctor Strange joining Spider-Man 3, The Guardians of the Galaxy joining Thor: Love and Thunder and Wanda will be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Hopefully we get to see Don Cheadle suit up in his War Machine armor in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
